چکیده

A series of random copolymers poly[(N-isopropyl acrylamide)-co-(aminoethyl methacrylate b-cyclodextrin)] (PNiCD) were synthesized by free radical polymerization, followed by examination of their physical properties to measure , ,Mw and A2 using dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS). The cyclodextrin (CD) moiety attached to the main chain plays two roles. As supramolecular host moieties, CDs form inclusion complexes with guest-ended polymers, leading to ‘‘graft-like’’ copolymers. As bulky hydrophilic moieties, CDs stabilize the micelles induced by the ‘‘coilto-globule’’ transition of NIPAM segments as temperature increases. The studies of heating rate dependency of this self-assembly of PNiCD are performed by a combination of DLS, SLS, AFM and TEM. Based on tracing the evolution of the size distributions of the aggregates of PNiCD at different heating rates and AFM observations, two mechanisms for the aggregation have been proposed as follows: in slow heating, the copolymer chains form unimolecular micelles first and then second aggregation of the micelles takes place leading to a large but loose aggregates; in fast heating, random aggregation occurs directly leading to small and compact aggregates. The formation of the unimolecular micelles as building blocks for the following aggregation, which was observed exclusively in slow heating process, was not reported before for PNIPAM and the corresponding copolymers. This can be attributed to the presence of the pendent bulky CD groups making the copolymer chains rigid, which has been addressed.

Thermal-oxidative Degradation of PGA, PLLA, and Random Binary PLLA-PGA Copolymers

Dimerization process is essential for producing copolymers. The features of dimerization process like thermal-oxidative degradation should be well known to reach maximum efficiency and a superior reactor design. Also, the degradation mechanism of biodegradable polymers is important during sterilization processes. Thermal-oxidative degradation of PGA, PLLA, and their binary copolymers was invest...

A Novel Method to Detect β-Cyclodextrin Glucosyl Transferase (β-CGTase) Activity on Polyacrylamide Gels

b-cyclodextrin glucosyl transferase (b-CGTase) hydrolyses starch to produce b-cyclodextrin by transglycosylation (cyclization) activity. The conventional method for detection of b-CGTase activity is based on detecting starch hydrolysis by iodine staining. This method reveals all amylolytic enzymes, but can not discriminate them. In the present study, we introduce a new method for specific detec...

Chiral recognition of macromolecules with cyclodextrins: pH- and thermosensitive copolymers from N-isopropylacrylamide and N-acryloyl-D/L-phenylalanine and their inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins

In the present work we report the enantioselective recognition of water soluble stimuli-responsive polymers bearing phenylalanine moieties via host-guest interaction with β-cyclodextrin and randomly-methylated-β-cyclodextrin (RAMEB-CD). We synthesised N-acryloyl-D/L-phenylalanine monomers (2(D), 2(L)) which were then copolymerised under free radical conditions with N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm...

Influence of cyclodextrin on the UCST- and LCST-behavior of poly(2-methacrylamido-caprolactam)-co-(N,N-dimethylacrylamide)

The monomer 2-methacrylamido-caprolactam (4) was synthesized from methacryloyl chloride (3) and racemic α-amino-ε-caprolactam (2). Copolymerization of 4 with N,N-dimethylacrylamide (5) was carried out by a free-radical mechanism using 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) (AIBN) as an initiator. The new copolymers show a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) in water and an upper critical sol...
